Her first movie, Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat, flopped at the box office. She was not the one to give up easily. Her wonderful performance in Ghulam won her instant acclaim and recognition. There were raving reviews about her brilliant performance in the movie. She received the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress award for her role in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Ever since there has been no looking back for Rani. She has starred with actor-director Kamal Haasan in Hey Ram.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali, is all set to make Black with Rani Mukherjee. Rumours say that it is based on the life of Hellen Keller born with full sight and hearing. When she was less than two years old she contracted a fever, which left her suddenly blinded and deaf for life. She grew up learning to cope with the tragedy and went on to achieve great things.

Hum Tum with Saif Ali Khan was a runaway hit and did well. She has a few movies in the pipeline. There is Veer Zaara, The Rising, Babul and Bajirao Mastani.
